The Effects Of Global Warming On The Environment - 977 Words

The Effects of Global Warming Introduction Global warming has been discussion for many years, but has, in the last decade or two been at the forefront of attention. The enormous effects and potential risks on humanity that can result from rise in global temperatures and the environment must be addressed, because the earth after all is finite. â€Å"Globalization refers to the rise of average temperature of oceans and earth’s atmosphere. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the earth’s average surface temperature increased 0.8  °C with the most since 1980. Recent increased drought, unusual heat, wildfires, hurricanes, and water shortages are clear indicators of global warming.† (Haldar, 2011) The fact is, global warming seems to be caused by†¦show more content†¦Methane is produced naturally in wetlands and arctic tundra causing global warming. The natural causes of global warming are related to the changes in the earth through various evolution processes even without human involvement.† (Maslin, 2007) Anthropogenic (human) Causes The current changes in earth’s temperature are also a result of human expansion of industrial and technological contributions. â€Å"Since the industrial, revolution, numerous human activities have significantly altered atmospheric greenhouse gases. Unlike natural causes of global warming which are gradual, human causes are rapid and have the most damage.† (Shrivastava, 2007) The main gases which have influence are carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, and chlorofluorocarbons. â€Å"Different human actions trigger the balance or level of these gases in the atmosphere like flaming of fossil fuels (CO2), and mining (Methane) hence contributing to global warming by the destruction of natural/rain forests, increased industrial activity, agriculture, transportation, and housing. Since the 1980s, there has been an overwhelming increase in industrial processes and transportation which uses fossil fuels.† (Shrivastava, 2007) Mitigation of Global Warming Various strategies have been put in place to mitigate global warming. â€Å"Some used strategies are clean coal technology and carbon
